R.I.P Haloscan!

Postby soozie UK on Tue Apr 29, 2008 9:50 am

Well, this is it then. The 'move'. I don't know exactly why, but I wanted to start a thread to 'officially' say ciao to Halo, and Halo to MB! And to help convince myself that this is the better option. I can't say I won't miss Halo, because I will. But it lost the plot in the last couple of pages and the rows and attacks had completely overwhelmed the reason we were all there, to discuss what happened to Meredith.

In the last 6 months of Halos, we've come to know and care for her in a way I wouldn't have thought imaginable in the beginning. I find that very touching and humbling and a real tribute to all the kind, thoughtful and genuine people here.
Meredith suffered an undignified and violent death. The more we learn about the details. the more horrifying we realise it was. And to date - no one has come forward to confess and to put Meredtih's family at ease.

By continuing to show our courtesy and regard for her on this board, and by continuing to 'co-operate' as a group in our quest to find out who did this terrible thing, (without being bogged down by troublemakers), - we are at least attempting to give Meredith and her family the respect they so rightfully deserve. With all the recent people determined to railroad and attack, we haven't been able to maintain any flow whatsoever. And we don't need or want 'angry' people here tainting Meredith's memory. It's just wrong. Anyway, I've said my piece. And so. . . Ciao Halo :D --- Let's hope this is a new start for us all to get back on track.

Best wishes to ALL of us and a special thanks to Steve Huff for everything.

If the incivil behavior of the trolls on haloscan is only a demonstration of how miserable some human beings can get, your post shows how noble they can be.
Thank you!

Thanks nicki. Same goes for you too and all the others who know who they are and don't need mentioning ('cos I'd be bound to leave someone out due to all the hashish, you know how it is). Anyway, I just checked out Halo again (not to post, but just to see the indignant aroused by our leaving!). And BTD is having a fit over there, really really having a tantrum. And guess what? No one's responded 'cos there's no one there :P :P :P

Yay! This board is already working!

Ditto to the words of both of you, Nicki and Soozie! I too will miss the haloscan, but I think this message board will work out just fine, once we all are accustomed to it. On the bright side, maybe the end of the old Halo will free up some time, speaking just for myself. I like the way the message board is broken down into separate topics

Have a good day!

well BTD can start posting using his many aliases, he asks questions and he provided answers to himself! :D
I think the discussion group can work very well here, we just have to get used to a different format. But there are many additional features and it's easy to retrieve reference material. Perhaps is less" immediate", but alltogether it is better according to me.
Have a good day Soozie and Stacey!

Making the most of the MB

Postby skeptical bystander on Tue Apr 29, 2008 12:05 pm

Soozie,
I'm glad to see you're fiddling around with the little smileys already. You see, there is life after Halo. Thanks for your post. When I found myself getting really frustrated with some of the stuff (the retard remarks were over the top), I would get this mental image of Meredith, smiling.

Nicki and Stacey,
Thanks for sticking around. And you're right, Stacey. One of the benefits of this board is that it will encourage us to slow down a bit and think. People who have been following this case have acquired a body of knowledge and an awareness of the complexities by now. This is a good forum for making the most of that.

nicki, was CD the weird 'discus' thing? I think I made about 6 posts there becoming back to a new Halo!
And now another move, with no time even to pack a mop :!:

I have to say, it's a kind of relief to engage in some inane chit chat for a while, without having all the pressure of abuse over at Halo. It's nice to take a break from all the squabbles. I, for one, am beginning to enjoy this new hideaway. It feels 'safe'. :)

I saw this once before in Africa - nasty vultures feasting on an old carcass after the herd had moved on....
